Tanganyika: Launch of Community Primary Healthcare Project in Kalemie and Kansimba
Kinshasa, November 10, 2025 - Tanganyika health authorities launched the “Mradi wa Afya Ziwa Tanganyika” (Tanganyika Primary Healthcare) community project, targeting 18 villages in the Kalemie and Kansimba health districts.
The project aims to raise awareness about disease prevention, particularly cholera, and to reduce maternal mortality. This three-year pilot initiative, implemented by the Moravian Church of Eastern Congo with financial support from the Danish International Development Cooperation Agency (DICAD), seeks to engage local residents and decision-makers to identify healthcare challenges and propose appropriate solutions, including access to clean water and improved birthing conditions.
The initiative addresses ongoing public health concerns, as communities continue to rely on Lake Tanganyika water for domestic and sanitary purposes.
