Tadjourah, July 6, 2026 - Djibouti's Tadjourah region has launched a new initiative to strengthen youth entrepreneurship, bringing together local authorities, development partners, and aspiring business owners in a bid to promote innovation, job creation, and sustainable economic growth. The entrepreneurship awareness day, organized by the Club des Jeunes Entrepreneurs de Tadjourah (CJET), marked the beginning of a broader effort to build a stronger entrepreneurial ecosystem by equipping young people with the skills, knowledge, and support needed to turn business ideas into viable enterprises. Held at the Regional Council headquarters, the event attracted entrepreneurs, students, job seekers, and project leaders, reflecting growing interest among the region's youth in entrepreneurship as a pathway to economic opportunity and self-employment. Discussions focused on the realities of launching and managing businesses, the challenges facing young entrepreneurs, and the economic opportunities available in promising sectors across the region. Participants also explored the role of entrepreneurship in addressing youth unemployment while fostering local innovation and private sector development. Local officials, representatives of development organizations, and experienced entrepreneurs participated in the event, sharing their professional experiences and encouraging young people to pursue their business ambitions through perseverance, innovation, and strategic planning. Speakers emphasized that successful enterprises are built on clear vision, adaptability, and sustained commitment. The program also introduced participants to the key stages of business creation, available support mechanisms, and practical approaches for transforming innovative ideas into financially sustainable ventures. CJET presented its mentoring and coaching program, which aims to identify promising entrepreneurs and provide guidance throughout the development of their projects. The initiative is supported by several national and international partners, including the European Union, the World Bank, the Center for Leadership and Entrepreneurship (CLE), and the Ministry Delegate for Innovation and the Digital Economy. Their collaboration is intended to strengthen entrepreneurial capacity and encourage the emergence of a new generation of business leaders capable of contributing to Djibouti's economic development. Beyond the awareness campaign, organizers announced a series of follow-up activities that will provide selected participants with specialized training in entrepreneurial leadership, accounting, financial management, communication, and marketing. Participants will also receive technical support to refine their business plans ahead of the Tadjourah Regional Entrepreneurship Forum, scheduled for November, where they will have the opportunity to present their projects to investors and development partners. The initiative reflects Tadjourah's broader commitment to promoting entrepreneurship as a driver of inclusive economic growth. By investing in youth skills, encouraging innovation, and expanding opportunities for business creation, the region aims to lay the foundation for a more resilient and diversified local economy.
