Suminwa Government Marks One Year Amid Security Crisis And Dialogue Pressure

Kinshasa, August 10, 2026 - Prime Minister Judith Suminwa's second government marked one year in office on August 8, with the administration facing continued pressure from the eastern security crisis, political polarization and calls for a national dialogue.

The 54-member cabinet, formed in August 2025, retained more than half of the previous team and was presented as a continuity government tasked with accelerating the 2024-2028 government action program after President Felix Tshisekedi's reelection.

The government says the political process must be framed around recognition of Rwandan aggression and the need to build a domestic front, while maintaining confidence in the Washington process between Kinshasa and Kigali and the Doha track with the AFC/M23 rebellion.

Opposition and civil society actors are pressing for a more inclusive dialogue involving all parties to the conflict. The dispute is unfolding alongside debate over constitutional reform, with the C64 opposition coalition's political deadline set for August 15, 2026.
