Sudanese Rights Group Says Army and RSF Detained Three Brothers

Khartoum, April 20, 2026 - A Sudanese legal advocacy group, Emergency Lawyers, has reported the detention and enforced disappearance of three brothers by both the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), warning of what it describes as a growing pattern of serious violations against civilians.

In a statement issued Monday, the group said the cases reflect an escalating climate of arbitrary detention, lack of accountability, and the collapse of legal protections amid the ongoing conflict in Sudan.

According to the report, the three brothers - Abdel Rahman, Mohammed, and Badri Ibrahim Badri - were detained separately in different parts of the country under varying circumstances.

Abdel Rahman Ibrahim was arrested by military intelligence on May 20 at his home in Omdurman. He was reportedly held incommunicado and moved between detention facilities in Omdurman and Soba on accusations of collaborating with the RSF. He was released after 11 months in detention in what the group described as poor physical and psychological condition.

The RSF detained the youngest brother, Mohammed Badri, on August 20, 2025, in Bara, North Kordofan. He was later transferred to Nyala in South Darfur and is believed to be held in Kober prison, though his exact status remains unconfirmed.

The eldest brother, Badri Ibrahim, was also detained by the RSF on August 25 in North Kordofan and transferred to the Dagris detention centre in Nyala, where he remains forcibly disappeared under conditions the group says lack transparency and basic dignity.

Emergency Lawyers further reported that the family has been subjected to financial extortion and fraud by individuals falsely claiming to have information about the detainees’ whereabouts.

The group called for the immediate and unconditional release of all arbitrarily detained individuals and urged both warring parties to shut down illegal detention facilities, stressing that detention is increasingly being used as a tool of war.
