Sudan Seeks Rwanda’s Expertise in Peacebuilding and Regional Cooperation

Kigali, January 2, 2026 - Sudan is looking to Rwanda as a model for peacebuilding and national reconstruction, according to Sudanese Ambassador to Rwanda, Khalid Musa Dafalla. Speaking at the Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA), Ambassador Musa highlighted Sudan’s interest in learning from Rwanda’s experience in achieving peace, unity, and rapid development.

“Sudan needs Rwanda not only as a development partner, but also as a peacebuilding partner. Rwanda provides peace and has a strong voice in understanding Africanness,” he said.

Ambassador Musa emphasized that Sudan is eager to strengthen regional cooperation and draw on Rwanda’s expertise in managing post-conflict reconstruction, reconciliation, and governance. He praised Rwanda’s leadership under President Paul Kagame, noting its influence in Africa and its ability to guide other nations in conflict resolution.

Sudan also values Rwanda’s hospitality toward Sudanese nationals, including 4,000 individuals who fled the ongoing conflict in Sudan since 2023, and the relocation of the Sudanese University of Medical Sciences and Technology (UMST) to Rwanda. Sudanese investments in Rwanda currently exceed $20 million, spanning agriculture, healthcare, construction, and education.

In sports, Sudanese football teams displaced by the war have also been allowed to compete in the Rwandan First Division Championship, reflecting Rwanda’s commitment to regional solidarity and support.

Ambassador Musa concluded that Rwanda serves as a model of development, unity, and reconciliation, and Sudan is keen to continue building on this partnership for the benefit of both nations and the region.
