Sudan Seeks Kuwaiti Financing And Banking Links To Ease War-Era Economic Crisis

Kuwait City, August 19, 2026 - A senior Sudanese delegation arrived in Kuwait seeking economic support, development financing and banking channels as Sudan's war-battered economy faces deep constraints on trade, infrastructure and financial intermediation.

The delegation is led by Foreign Minister Mohieddin Salem, Finance Minister Gibril Ibrahim and Central Bank Governor Amina Mirghani. They delivered a letter from army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan to Kuwait's leadership and began three days of talks with Kuwaiti officials and Arab development funds.

Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled al-Hamad al-Sabah received the letter on behalf of Emir Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Sabah. The discussions focused on bilateral ties, regional stability and Sudan's need for financial support as the conflict between the army and the Rapid Support Forces continues to disrupt productive sectors and basic infrastructure.

Sudanese financial authorities are seeking development finance and cross-border banking mechanisms that could stabilize trade flows and support eventual reconstruction. For investors, any Kuwaiti-backed facility or banking arrangement would be a signal of external confidence in Sudan's post-conflict recovery architecture, though implementation remains tied to the security environment.
