Sudan Rejects Claims Its Forces Struck Inside Chad

Khartoum, August 27, 2026 - Sudan's foreign ministry rejected allegations that its military carried out airstrikes in Chad, warning that premature blame could further strain relations across already volatile border zones.

The ministry responded after a senior U.S. Africa adviser condemned air attacks in Chad that he attributed to the Sudanese military. Chad's armed forces said an air raid had struck a vehicle convoy in Ennedi-Est province, more than 100 kilometres from the Sudanese border, and said available information pointed to Sudanese aircraft or allied fighters.

Khartoum said responsibility should not be assigned before a professional and independent inquiry. It said Sudan respects Chad's territorial integrity and that its army operates within a mandate to protect national security, not to target neighbouring territory.

Sudan also accused the international community of ignoring what it described as daily drone incursions from Ethiopia into Blue Nile state. The army said it intercepted a drone over the southeastern region on Thursday, the third such incident it reported this week.

The dispute highlights the regionalisation of Sudan's war, with Khartoum accusing both Chad and Ethiopia of enabling support to the RSF, charges both governments deny. Sudan said it remains willing to address border security through direct dialogue, a critical issue for regional trade routes, refugee flows and any future diplomatic settlement.
