Sudan and Turkey Sign Agreements on Agriculture, Energy and Mining in Ankara

Ankara, May 22, 2026 - Sudan and Turkey have concluded the 16th session of their Joint Ministerial Economic Committee, agreeing on a series of cooperation projects in agriculture, energy, and mining aimed at strengthening bilateral economic ties and supporting Sudan’s reconstruction efforts.

The Sudanese delegation, led by Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Ismat Qurashi, met with Turkish Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli, who headed the host delegation. The session brought together senior officials from both countries, including representatives from Sudan’s ministries of foreign affairs, finance, agriculture, energy, mining, animal resources, higher education, culture, tourism, and the central bank.

According to Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides reached agreements to implement joint projects across key economic sectors, alongside expanded technical cooperation and capacity-building initiatives based on previously signed memoranda of understanding.

Discussions also included plans to enhance Turkey’s support for Sudan’s health sector and broader humanitarian response, as well as participation in reconstruction efforts targeting infrastructure damaged by the ongoing conflict. Both parties emphasized the importance of private sector involvement in boosting trade and investment, with commitments to facilitate business forums under the Joint Business Council framework.

Minister Ismat Qurashi expressed appreciation for Turkey’s continued support during Sudan’s conflict period, reaffirming Sudan’s commitment to executing the agreed projects in line with shared development priorities. His Turkish counterpart urged the swift implementation of the agreements and called for an increase in bilateral trade, describing economic cooperation as a central pillar of relations between the two countries.
