Sudan And Saudi Arabia Create Strategic Coordination Council
Riyadh, August 17, 2026 - Sudan and Saudi Arabia signed an agreement to establish a Supreme Council for Strategic Coordination and Cooperation, creating a formal mechanism to deepen political, trade and investment ties.
Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohieddin Salem and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan signed the pact in Riyadh. The council follows a March 2025 understanding between Sudanese Sovereign Council head Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
The new body is designed to align policies, facilitate joint development projects and strengthen economic stability. Sudan said the council will oversee ten key sectors, including political coordination, commerce and mutual investments.
The two foreign ministers also chaired a joint political consultation session on bilateral relations and regional security. For Sudan, the arrangement signals an effort to secure Gulf backing for economic recovery, infrastructure priorities and diplomatic positioning during the war.
