Sudan Accuses RSF of Mass Detention Abuses and Organ Trafficking in Darfur Prisons

United Nations, June 12, 2026 - Sudan has accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of operating large-scale detention facilities in Darfur where inmates are allegedly subjected to torture, starvation, and unlawful medical practices, including organ trafficking, according to a letter submitted to the UN Security Council.

The letter claims that approximately 20,000 detainees are being held at a prison facility in Nyala, South Darfur, while additional detainees, including children, are reportedly held at another facility in El Fasher, North Darfur.

According to the document, conditions inside the detention centres have deteriorated sharply, with reports of severe food shortages, disease outbreaks, and rising mortality among inmates.

It further alleges the involvement of foreign medical personnel in illicit activities inside the facilities, including organ removal from detainees, though these claims have not been independently verified.

The Sudanese government also accuses the RSF of extrajudicial killings and the concealment of detainee deaths, as well as the execution of wounded individuals at medical facilities in North Darfur.

The RSF has not publicly responded to the allegations.

Sudan has called for urgent international intervention, including independent investigations and immediate access for humanitarian and monitoring organizations to the detention sites, citing concerns over grave human rights violations.
