Strengthening the Ouagadougou-Tehran Axis: Visit of a Special Envoy from the Islamic Republic of Iran to Burkina Faso
Ouagadougou, November 26, 2025 - The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation, and Burkinabè Abroad, His Excellency Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, received a special envoy from the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Akbar Khosravinejad, on the evening of Tuesday, November 26, 2025.
The Iranian envoy conveyed an important message from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, His Excellency Dr. Abbas Araghchi, to Minister Traoré. He also extended an official invitation to the Burkinabè Minister for a visit to Iran, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Mr. Khosravinejad expressed the satisfaction of Iranian authorities with the quality of bilateral cooperation between Iran and Burkina Faso. He also praised the excellent relations between Iran and the three member states of the Confederation of Sahel States (CSA).
He expressed hope that these relations would be further reinforced through a consultation framework between the CSA and Iran, fostering increased support and solidarity.
Minister Traoré welcomed the initiative and acknowledged the invitation as a strong sign of friendship between Burkina Faso and Iran. He also welcomed Iran’s ambition to engage in active cooperation with the CSA within a shared vision.
