Strengthening Domestic Energy Market Regulation Through Systematic Inspection Campaign

By Amina Kabasele2 min readFrançais

NIAMEY, Niger - Wednesday, November 26 to Thursday, November 27, 2025 - Minister of Trade and Industry Abdoulaye Seydou personally led a sweeping 48-hour inspection campaign across service stations in the Niamey region. The operation included detailed checks on safety compliance, fuel quality control, and price verification at thirteen stations, culminating in the immediate temporary closure of three facilities found to be in violation of national standards.

The Minister underscored that “market regulation is a fundamental function of national sovereignty, ensuring citizens access to essential goods under conditions of safety, affordability, and quality.” This initiative forms part of a broader government strategy to curb informal practices in the energy market and reinforce consumer protection. Similar inspection campaigns are scheduled to extend to regional capitals in the coming weeks.
