Strategic Mine Site Inspections Reinforce Resource Nationalization Policy

ARLIT/ASSAMAKA, Agadez - President Tiani intensified his northern tour on November 14 with high-stakes inspections of two strategic locations, underscoring the administration’s determination to secure border regions and advance its flagship resource-nationalization agenda. At the SOMAÏR uranium mine-now fully state-owned after post-transition restructuring-the Head of State reiterated that the nationalization process is “irreversible,” announcing that Niger will henceforth market its uranium to “respectful partners under clear terms guaranteeing fair returns for the Nigerien people.” The technical inspection revealed production exceeding 1,000 tons of yellowcake since the July 26, 2023 transition, with the President engaging directly with engineers, technicians, and workers to assess operational constraints and ongoing modernization efforts.

Earlier in Assamaka, at the edge of the Algerian border, President Tiani visited frontline positions less than a day after security forces repelled a coordinated attack carried out by four armed vehicles. He praised the “exceptional courage” of Defense and Security Forces stationed in isolated desert posts, emphasizing that their resilience “embodies the highest form of patriotism and national service” and remains essential to securing major transit corridors and preventing infiltration along one of the country’s most volatile frontiers.
