State Witness Alleges Drone Plot In Besigye Treason Trial
Kampala, August 19, 2026 - A state witness detailed an alleged drone assassination plot against President Yoweri Museveni as the treason trial involving opposition figure Dr Kizza Besigye continued, keeping a politically sensitive case in the national spotlight.
The proceedings went ahead in Besigye's absence after Mulago National Referral Hospital medically cleared him following an earlier collapse in court.
The case remains nationally consequential because it involves a leading opposition figure and allegations directed at the head of state, raising scrutiny over judicial process, political competition and state security claims.
For investors, the trial is a marker of Uganda's political risk environment ahead of future governance transitions and opposition-state relations.
