SP-APRM Hosts Governance and Sovereignty Roundtable at ENAM

Ouagadougou, December 8, 2025 - The Permanent Secretariat of the African Peer Review Mechanism (SP-APRM) on Saturday held a roundtable discussion on governance, sovereignty, and endogenous development for students of the National School of Administration and Magistracy (ENAM), as part of efforts to promote good governance values among future public administrators.

The event took place on Saturday, December 6, and aimed to strengthen trainees’ understanding of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), while raising awareness of the principles of sound political, economic, and social governance, as well as probity and integrity in public service.

The roundtable featured three thematic presentations. An initial session led by the SP-APRM focused on clarifying the institution’s mandate and core activities. Two additional presentations examined issues related to governance, national sovereignty, and endogenous development models.

The opening session was chaired by Ambassador Seydou Sinka, Special Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabè Abroad, in the presence of Dr. Jacob Yarassoula Yarabatioula, Director General of ENAM, and Mr. Brahima Ouedraogo, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Agricultural Development (MPAD).

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Sinka recalled the process that led to the establishment of Burkina Faso’s self-assessment and governance monitoring mechanism under the APRM framework. He underscored the importance of the mechanism, describing it as a tool designed to “stimulate and promote political, economic, social, and entrepreneurial development based on endogenous values.”

He further noted that the initiative seeks to deepen understanding of the APRM process and to help define the contours of a new vision for development governance rooted in national values and priorities.

According to the Special Advisor, the relevance of the roundtable lies in its contribution to shaping future leaders of the Burkinabe public administration, by instilling a strong sense of responsibility and integrity, and by fostering greater awareness of issues related to sovereignty and good governance.
