Search and rescue continues after migrant shipwreck off Djibouti coast

Obock, Djibouti, March 26, 2026 - Search and rescue operations are ongoing following a migrant boat disaster that occurred on March 24 in waters off the coast of Obock. The Djiboutian coast guard, in coordination with the International Organization for Migration, is continuing efforts to locate missing passengers after the vessel carrying more than 300 Ethiopian migrants capsized. Authorities confirmed that more than 120 survivors have already received food, medical care, and psychosocial support at reception facilities. Search operations remain active as officials work to account for those still missing in the incident.
