Saudi Arabia Strengthen Ties During Saudi Founding Day Celebration

Bamako, February 23, 2026 - Mali reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during celebrations marking the 299th anniversary of Saudi Founding Day held Monday in Bamako. Foreign Affairs Minister Abdoulaye Diop attended the ceremony at the invitation of Saudi Ambassador Abdullah Saleh Saber, representing the Malian authorities at the official event. Official Congratulations to Saudi Leadership Speaking on behalf of Mali’s leadership, Minister Diop conveyed congratulations and best wishes to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, as well as to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, and to the Saudi people. The Malian minister highlighted the historic religious and civilizational ties linking Mali and Saudi Arabia, recalling the famous pilgrimage to Mecca in 1324 by Mansa Kankou Moussa, one of the most renowned rulers of the Mali Empire. Longstanding Cooperation Minister Diop praised the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries, noting several major achievements supported by Saudi Arabia, including: The Grand Mosque of Bamako The Second Bamako Bridge Various development projects These projects were presented as symbols of strong diplomatic relations and solidarity between the two nations. Toward Stronger Economic Partnership Both Malian and Saudi officials stressed the importance of expanding cooperation through productive investments and structuring development projects aimed at boosting economic and trade exchanges. Discussions also highlighted the need for closer collaboration in the fight against terrorism in Mali and across the AES Confederation, reflecting shared security priorities in the Sahel region. Officials from both sides expressed their commitment to building a mutually beneficial partnership based on solidarity, economic cooperation, and regional stability.
