Rwanda’s Chief Justice Calls on New Judges to Reject Corruption and Uphold Integrity

Kigali, April 10, 2026 - The President of the Supreme Court of Rwanda, Domitilla Mukantaganzwa, has urged newly appointed judges and court clerks to uphold integrity and treat corruption as incompatible with judicial duty.

The remarks were delivered during a swearing-in ceremony for 10 judges and 16 court clerks, where Mukantaganzwa emphasized that ethical conduct and professionalism must guide all judicial work.

She stressed that corruption has no place in the justice system, describing it as “an abomination” and warning that any conduct leading to it undermines public trust in the courts.

“You know that corruption is an abomination. It is not acceptable and all the behaviors that lead to it are unacceptable,” she said, urging the new judicial officials to serve citizens with fairness and discipline.

Mukantaganzwa further called on the appointees to cultivate teamwork and cooperation within the judiciary, noting that collaboration among colleagues is essential to the functioning of the justice system. She encouraged them to support one another and uphold shared institutional values.

She added that the judiciary would continue to provide support to its staff while expecting them to fully discharge their responsibilities in serving the public.

Other judicial officials present echoed the same message. High Court Judge Hodari Edgar emphasized the importance of integrity and quality service delivery, while court official Uwera Mireille Marceline pledged commitment to fighting corruption and improving service to court users.

The ceremony underscored ongoing efforts within Rwanda’s judiciary to strengthen professionalism, accountability, and public confidence in the justice system.
