Rwandan Senator Dismisses Burundi’s Military Claims

By Amina Kabasele2 min readFrançais

Rwandan Senator Evode Uwizeyimana has sharply criticized what he described as provocations by Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye against the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), comparing them to a “rat posturing on a lawn.”

Speaking in an interview aired on Rwanda National Television on December 14, 2025, Uwizeyimana said that despite Burundi’s repeated claims of military strength, its leadership knows it cannot prevail in a confrontation with Rwanda. He referred to earlier remarks by President Ndayishimiye suggesting that any Rwandan attack via Uvira could be resolved in less than two hours, dismissing them as mere rhetoric.

Uwizeyimana argued that the recent defeat of Burundian forces in Uvira, which later fell under AFC/M23 control, exposed what he called war propaganda by Bujumbura, insisting that Burundi lacks the capacity to back up such threats.
