Rwandan peacekeepers provide medical care and support to women in CAR prison

Bimbo, Central African Republic, March 28, 2026 - Rwandan troops serving under the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) have carried out a humanitarian medical outreach at Bimbo Women’s Prison near Bangui. The First Battalion of the Rwandan contingent conducted medical screenings and treatment for inmates, focusing on general health conditions as well as dental and eye care services, following a request from prison authorities through MINUSCA. The team also distributed essential medicines and held psychosocial support sessions aimed at restoring hope and improving mental well-being among detainees. Battalion Commander Lt Col Paul Gasasira said the initiative reflects MINUSCA’s commitment not only to peace and security, but also to the protection of human dignity for all, including prisoners. Prison Director Djadde Clotilde expressed appreciation for the mission, praising the Rwandan contingent for its humanitarian support and cooperation. Officials say the intervention provided both medical relief and emotional support, reinforcing trust between peacekeepers and local institutions.
