Rwandan Peacekeepers Provide Free Medical Care to Prisoners in Central African Republic

Bria, February 25, 2026 - Rwandan peacekeepers deployed in the Central African Republic have provided free medical treatment to detainees at the Bria prison camp, as part of ongoing humanitarian assistance efforts under the United Nations peacekeeping mission.

The operation was carried out by members of the Rwandan Battle Group 8, supported by a Level II military hospital team, and aimed at addressing urgent healthcare needs among prisoners. Services included treatment for internal diseases, women’s health services, dental care, and other essential medical support.

Officials present during the operation included the Bria camp commander, the head of the Rwandan military hospital, and the commander of Rwandan Battle Group 8.

Local authorities welcomed the initiative, highlighting the longstanding cooperation between peacekeeping forces and local institutions. They emphasized that detainees often face serious challenges in accessing medical services, particularly due to shortages of medicines and limited healthcare resources.

The medical outreach was presented as part of the broader peacekeeping mandate, which focuses not only on security operations but also on the protection of civilians and the promotion of human dignity.
