RwandAir Kigali-Mombasa Route to Boost Trade and Tourism, Says Kenyan Ambassador
Mombasa, December 1, 2025 - The Kenyan Ambassador to Rwanda, Janet Mwawasi Oben, has highlighted the potential of the new RwandAir Kigali-Mombasa route to strengthen trade and tourism between the two countries. She spoke during the launch ceremony at Moi International Airport in Mombasa, where she was among the executives on board the inaugural flight.
Ambassador Mwawasi described the route as “very important for Kenya,” noting that a direct connection to Mombasa, a major tourist destination, has long been awaited. “It will boost tourism and trade,” she said.
RwandAir’s Chief Commercial Officer, Fouad Caunhye, emphasized that resuming flights to Mombasa is essential for reconnecting countries, markets, and communities.
On Monday, December 1, 2025, RwandAir also launched flights to Zanzibar Island in Tanzania, expanding its regional network. The Zanzibar-Mombasa route will operate four times a week - on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
The airline resumes Mombasa flights after a pause since 2019, while Zanzibar represents a new destination, enhancing East African connectivity and trade opportunities.
