Rwanda Hosts Continental Water And Sanitation Leadership Meeting
Kigali, August 18, 2026 - Rwanda hosted the Africa Water and Sanitation Systems Leadership Symposium in Kigali, bringing governments and continental institutions together to focus on faster delivery of water and sanitation access.
The meeting ran from August 17 to 21 at the Kigali Convention Centre and was jointly organized by the African Union, AMCOW and the Government of Rwanda. Prime Minister Justin Nsengiyumva urged African governments to move beyond declarations and deliver measurable improvements.
Infrastructure Minister Jimmy Gasore highlighted sustainable infrastructure, institutional reform and innovative financing as priorities for the sector. The symposium also fed into Africa's preparations for the United Nations Water Conference scheduled for December 2026.
For investors, the agenda pointed to rising policy attention on bankable infrastructure, public service delivery and blended financing models across essential services.
