Rwanda Encourages Athletes to Invest Through Stock Exchange
Kigali, March 16, 2026 - The Rwanda Stock Exchange (RSE), in partnership with the Ministry of Sports, has launched a campaign to encourage athletes to invest in financial markets and secure their long-term financial future.
The initiative began with a training session bringing together sports stakeholders, focusing on how athletes can leverage the stock exchange for savings, investment, and financial stability beyond their careers.
The program emphasized the importance of financial literacy, highlighting how stocks and other financial products can offer sustainable income and long-term security, particularly for athletes whose earnings may fluctuate during and after their careers.
Rwego Ngarambe, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Sports, underscored the need for athletes to build strong financial foundations. “Athletes dedicate years to their careers. It is essential that they invest with the same commitment to secure their future and contribute to the country’s economic transformation,” he said.
The CEO of the Rwanda Stock Exchange, Pierre Célestin Rwabukumba, noted that the initiative aims to provide athletes with reliable and regulated investment opportunities. “Athletes can transform their future by investing gradually in approved financial products, gaining confidence while benefiting both during and after their careers,” he said.
Participants welcomed the campaign, saying it aligns with their need to plan for life after sports and achieve financial independence.
The initiative comes at a time when Rwanda’s sports sector is expanding, alongside growing attention to the financial well-being of athletes. Regulators and partners emphasized that improving access to investment opportunities and strengthening financial education will be key to helping athletes make informed financial decisions.
