Rwanda banks finance major telecom infrastructure deal involving 1,400 towers

Kigali, Rwanda, March 28, 2026 - A consortium of six commercial banks in Rwanda has provided financing to support a large-scale telecommunications infrastructure transaction involving more than 1,400 mobile network towers. The deal, led by the Bank of Kigali alongside BPR Bank Rwanda, the Development Bank of Rwanda (BRD), I&M Bank Rwanda, Ecobank Rwanda, and Access Bank Rwanda, is part of a syndicated loan arrangement backing the acquisition and management of critical telecom assets. The towers, originally owned by IHS Holdings Rwanda, were sold in October 2025 to Paradigm Tower Ventures for an estimated $274.5 million and later transferred to its local subsidiary, Ishara Towers Rwanda, which will oversee operations in the country. Bank of Kigali CEO Diane Karusisi said the transaction demonstrates the growing capacity of Rwanda’s financial sector to support large-scale infrastructure investments essential for digital connectivity and economic growth. Paradigm Tower Ventures CEO Gordon Porter welcomed the agreement, describing it as a strong example of partnership between international investors and Rwandan financial institutions. The telecom towers are considered critical infrastructure, supporting mobile communications, internet access, and digital financial services across the country.
