Rwanda Approves Rwf7.8 Trillion Budget for 2026/2027

Kigali, June 9, 2026 - The Rwandan Cabinet has approved a draft national budget of Rwf7,796.3 billion for the 2026/2027 fiscal year, marking a 12% increase compared to the revised budget of Rwf6,952.1 billion allocated for 2025/2026.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the new budget reflects continued economic expansion and is designed to support key national priorities, including agricultural transformation, industrial development, job creation, and overall economic resilience.

The government indicated that 68% of the budget, equivalent to Rwf5,273.8 billion, will be financed through domestic revenue sources, while external funding will account for approximately 7%.

Officials say the strong reliance on domestic resources highlights growing economic self-sufficiency and improved national revenue performance.

The budget is expected to finance a wide range of development programs aimed at accelerating infrastructure projects, boosting productivity in key sectors, and strengthening long-term economic stability.

Authorities noted that the allocation also aligns with Rwanda’s broader strategy to sustain growth momentum while enhancing resilience against global economic uncertainties.

The 2026/2027 fiscal plan is part of ongoing efforts to ensure efficient public spending and to support national development goals under Rwanda’s long-term economic transformation agenda.
