Rwanda appoints new ambassador to New Zealand

Wellington, April 1, 2026 - Rwanda has officially presented a new ambassador to New Zealand as it seeks to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties with the Pacific nation. Ambassador Innocent Muhizi presented his credentials to Governor-General Dame Cindy Kiro during a formal ceremony in Wellington, officially assuming his diplomatic duties. Following the presentation, Amb. Muhizi highlighted opportunities to deepen cooperation between Rwanda and New Zealand, particularly in agriculture, renewable energy, environmental protection, and tourism. Both countries are members of the Commonwealth, a framework that continues to support diplomatic engagement and international cooperation among member states. Officials say the appointment is part of Rwanda’s broader effort to expand its global partnerships and attract investment and expertise across key development sectors.
