Rwanda Agricultural Exports Cross $1 Billion For First Time

By Jean-Marc Okito2 min read

Kigali, August 13, 2026 - Rwanda's agricultural exports reached $1.1 billion, about Rwf1.6 trillion, in the 2025-2026 financial year ended in June, crossing the $1 billion mark for the first time.

The National Agricultural Export Development Board put the increase at 24.3 percent from $893 million in the previous financial year, making it the highest annual export earnings figure recorded by the agricultural sector.

The growth was attributed to improved export infrastructure, stronger traceability, better compliance with international quality standards, new market access, improved logistics and stronger relationships with international buyers. Higher productivity and innovation among farmers also contributed, including quality-focused initiatives in specialty coffee.

The milestone supports Rwanda's Second National Strategy for Transformation and the 5th Strategic Plan for Agriculture Transformation, both of which prioritize higher productivity, export growth, resilience and value addition. The figure also highlights agriculture's importance to foreign-exchange earnings and rural incomes.
