Ruberwa Challenges Kinshasa Security Strategy In Minembwe

Kinshasa, August 21, 2026 - Ruberwa questioned the government's security priorities in Minembwe, arguing that military pressure on the Banyamulenge area risks deepening tensions while other major localities remain under armed control.

He said the Twirwaneho self-defense group emerged nine years ago amid the expansion of armed groups, framing its creation as a response to local insecurity rather than as the root of the crisis.

Ruberwa argued that the restoration of state authority should be pursued through the Geneva negotiations and not by force alone. The remarks point to continued political contestation over Kinshasa's approach to eastern DRC's armed conflicts and local self-defense movements.
