RSF Leader Sentences Defected General to Death in Absentia

Nyala, April 23, 2026 - The commander of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemetti, has stripped defected Major General Al-Nour Ahmed Adam, also known as “Al-Qubba,” of his military rank and sentenced him to death in absentia.

The decision follows accusations that the senior officer deserted his post and collaborated with the Sudanese army. Al-Qubba had recently defected amid internal tensions within the RSF leadership in North Darfur after disagreements over command appointments following the group’s takeover of El Fasher in October 2025.

Sources indicate that the officer’s defection was linked to disputes over his exclusion from key leadership roles, particularly the appointment of another commander in North Darfur. He is also reported to have raised concerns about discrimination against his forces and inadequate logistical support.

After fleeing North Darfur, Al-Qubba reportedly reached Dongola on April 19, where he surrendered to the Sudanese army. He later met with the head of Sudan’s Sovereign Council and commander-in-chief of the armed forces.

In an internal RSF decision, a field court reportedly approved charges against him, including desertion, abandonment of military positions, and communication with opposing forces. The ruling also cited rebellion against the group’s 2025 internal order framework.

A formal memo from the RSF administration confirmed that Hemetti ratified the court’s decision, demoting Al-Nour to the rank of private and formally dismissing him from service effective April 22. The death sentence was issued in absentia following his arrival in territory controlled by the army.

Al-Qubba is a founding member of the RSF and a prominent figure in the ongoing conflict that began in April 2023. He previously played a key role in battles for El Fasher alongside senior commanders, some of whom have since been killed or reassigned amid internal power struggles within the group.
