Promoting Cultural Heritage Through the Development of Traditional Sports
DIFFA, Niger - Monday, November 24, 2025 - The regional qualifying rounds for traditional wrestling began with vibrant ceremonies at the Diffa traditional games arena, drawing thousands of spectators and dozens of participating teams. This event forms part of the preparations for the 46th National Wrestling Championships, scheduled for December 18-29, 2025, in Tahoua, and serves as a platform to strengthen cultural identity and social cohesion in border regions affected by ongoing security challenges.
The opening ceremonies featured traditional music and dance performances, alongside active participation from regional authorities, reflecting a broader strategy to leverage cultural heritage as a tool for community resilience amid persistent violent extremist threats.
