Prime Minister Nsengiyumva Commends Switzerland for Opening Embassy in Rwanda

Kigali, Rwanda - 20 November 2025 - Prime Minister Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva welcomed Ignazio Cassis, Swiss State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, to discuss bilateral relations and Switzerland’s decision to upgrade its liaison office in Kigali to a full-fledged embassy. The discussions coincided with Cassis’s attendance at the 46th Ministerial Meeting of the Organization of French-Speaking Countries (OIF).

Prime Minister Nsengiyumva commended Switzerland for attending the Francophonie Ministerial Meeting and praised the government’s decision to open a permanent embassy in Rwanda, calling it a significant milestone in deepening bilateral ties.

“The opening of a Swiss Embassy in Kigali strengthens our diplomatic relations and reflects Switzerland’s commitment to supporting Rwanda’s development. This is a major step in furthering cooperation between our two countries,” the Prime Minister said.

The Swiss Embassy in Kigali was officially inaugurated on 20 November 2025, marking a new chapter in diplomatic engagement. Minister Cassis emphasized that Switzerland will continue to support and promote economic relations, while expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.

Rwanda and Switzerland share a long-standing diplomatic relationship, dating back to the early 1960s, with development cooperation spanning health, education, housing, infrastructure, good governance, and culture. Both governments reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties and exploring new opportunities for partnership.
