Prime Minister Maïga Pays Working Visit to Guinea, Reaffirms Bilateral Cooperation

Conakry, December 9, 2025 - Mali’s Prime Minister, Major General Abdoulaye Maïga, has paid a friendship and working visit to the Republic of Guinea, underscoring the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two West African neighbors.

Upon arrival at Ahmed Sékou Touré International Airport in Conakry, Prime Minister Maïga was received by his Guinean counterpart, Amadou Oury Bah, alongside members of the Malian community. The visit featured a working session focused on economic and trade cooperation, including prospects for rail interconnection, transit corridors for goods, and the management of transhumance.

Both delegations reaffirmed their shared vision of a more integrated West Africa, with Guinea expressing its readiness to support Mali in advancing joint initiatives. The talks highlighted opportunities for future infrastructure and trade projects, which could contribute to economic stability and shared growth within the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).

Observers note, however, that translating these commitments into tangible outcomes will require addressing persistent security challenges along border areas, including jihadist threats that could disrupt trade and mobility. More broadly, the visit reflects the Malian transitional authorities’ strategy to diversify regional partnerships and recalibrate diplomatic relations, while navigating the balance between bilateral cooperation and wider regional integration within the AES framework.
