President Tiani’s National Tour Reinforces Grassroots Support and Asserts Niger’s Sovereign Governance Path
DOSSO, TAHOUA & AGADEZ, Niger - November 14, 2025 - President Brigadier General Abdourahamane Tiani concluded a sweeping national tour across three major regions, a political move widely interpreted as a demonstration of expanding popular support and a reaffirmation of Niger’s new sovereignty-driven governance model. Traveling primarily by road, the Head of State engaged directly with citizens across Dosso, Tahoua, and Agadez, marking one of the most extensive outreach missions of his administration.
DOSSO REGION: Mass Mobilization and Direct Dialogue
The tour began in Gaya (Dosso Region) on Saturday, November 08, and continued in Dosso city the following day. At both stops, President Tiani addressed massive crowds, offering clarifications on several national issues, including:
national security and counterterrorism strategy
the reasons behind the continued border closure with Benin
food security challenges and ongoing government interventions
the administration’s sovereign approach to defense and regional cooperation
Switching between French and local languages such as Djerma, the President sought to cultivate a personal bond with residents. His reception was marked by remarkable enthusiasm, with thousands lining the roads and presenting symbolic traditional gifts - including a pair of live crocodiles offered by the Canton Chief of Gaya, underscoring deep local respect.
TAHOUA REGION: Youth, Security, and Agricultural Vision
From November 09 to 10, the President travelled through the Tahoua Region, beginning at the border village of Koujack, where he was received by Governor Colonel-Major Souleymane Amadou Moussa. Crowds gathered late into the night in Konni, Illela, and surrounding localities.
In Tahoua city, a regional stadium filled to capacity as President Tiani presented his priorities for:
youth employment and vocational development
strengthening commerce and regional markets
boosting agricultural resilience
improving food security through domestic production
He also issued stern warnings to Nigeriens collaborating with jihadist groups or criminal networks, stressing that national unity and discipline were indispensable for the country’s “refoundation.”
AGADEZ REGION: Historic Mobilization and Sovereign Economic Declarations
The tour’s most politically significant stage took place in Agadez, where the President arrived on November 11. His convoy was met with what authorities described as the largest public mobilization in the region’s history. Tens of thousands lined the road from Tamaya to Agadez city, underscoring the symbolic weight of the visit in a region central to Niger's mining economy.
On Wednesday, November 12, President Tiani addressed a massive rally at the Aboubacar Djibo Traditional Wrestling Arena, invoking the legacy of resistance icons such as Koacen and Tegama. He framed Niger’s current political trajectory as a continuation of long-standing anti-colonial struggles.
In a defining moment of the tour, he announced the irreversible nationalization of key mining companies, including those operating in:
uranium extraction
gold mining
other strategic mineral sectors
“The wealth of Niger will now belong to Niger,” he declared, calling the move a foundational pillar of national sovereignty.
The announcement was met with resounding applause, marking a major shift in the country’s resource governance strategy and signaling a clear departure from decades of foreign-dominated mining exploitation.
A Tour Meant to Shape the Political Narrative
Observers note that President Tiani’s regional tour was both a demonstration of political strength and an attempt to consolidate popular legitimacy following months of geopolitical tension and economic reforms. By traveling vast distances by road and engaging directly with rural communities often neglected by past administrations, the Head of State positioned himself as a leader rooted in proximity and nationalist ideology.
The tour is expected to influence Niger’s internal political dynamics and its evolving foreign policy stance, particularly regarding sovereignty over natural resources and regional alliances.
