President Kagame set for official visit to Botswana to boost bilateral ties

Gaborone, 29 April 2026 - Rwandan President Paul Kagame is expected to undertake an official visit to Botswana on 30 April, in a move aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries.

The visit comes ahead of the second session of the Rwanda-Botswana Joint Commission, scheduled for 4-5 May, which will review progress made since the framework was established in 2019 and explore new areas of cooperation.

Discussions between the two countries are expected to focus on key sectors including trade driven by technology, tourism development, livestock vaccination, transport, and value addition in the diamond industry.

During the visit, President Kagame is also expected to tour the Diamond Trading Company Botswana, as part of efforts to deepen cooperation in the mining and minerals sector.

Officials from both sides are set to sign several agreements covering trade and investment, including a framework outlining collaboration between the Botswana Trade and Investment Corporation and the Rwanda Development Board.

A bilateral trade summit is scheduled for 5 May, bringing together government officials and business leaders to explore investment opportunities and strengthen commercial partnerships. The Rwandan delegation is expected to include senior government representatives and members of the private sector.
