President Guelleh Praises Voters Following Djibouti Presidential Election
Djibouti, April 11, 2026 - The President of the Republic, Ismail Omar Guelleh, has commended the Djiboutian people for their participation in what he described as a transparent and peaceful presidential election, held on April 10.
In a statement to the press following the announcement of the results, President Guelleh paid tribute to voters, emphasizing their role in the country’s democratic process. “It is our entire people who have triumphed today, embarking on a new chapter in their legitimate pursuit of sustainable development,” he said.
The head of state also expressed hope for strengthened national unity. “I hope for greater cohesion, unity, and fraternity for our nation,” he added.
According to the official results, President Guelleh, who was seeking re-election, secured a decisive victory with 97.81% of the vote. His main challenger, Mohamed Farah Samatar, president of the Unified Democratic Centre (CDU), received 2.19% of the votes cast.
