Police Rescue 18 Children in Wakiso, Arrest Two in Suspected Human Trafficking Case

WAKISO, June 22, 2026 - Police have rescued 18 children from a house in Wakiso District and arrested two suspects as part of an investigation into a suspected human trafficking operation.

The operation was conducted on June 21 at a residence in Kakunyu Village, Wakiso Town Council, after local authorities reported that an unusually large number of children were being housed at the premises.

During the raid, officers found 18 children-nine boys and nine girls-aged between three and 12 years living in two rooms under circumstances investigators considered suspicious.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the children had allegedly been transported from Luweero and Masindi districts, although the purpose and circumstances of their relocation remain under investigation.

Police arrested two suspects identified as George Mulindwa (33), a teacher, and Madinah Babirye (24), a casual worker. They remain in custody as detectives investigate possible human trafficking and related offenses.

The rescued children have been placed under protective care while authorities work to establish their identities and reunite them with their parents or guardians. The identification process is being conducted in collaboration with child protection and social welfare agencies.

Investigators are also seeking to determine whether the case is linked to a broader child trafficking network operating across multiple districts.

Authorities have urged parents and guardians whose children may have disappeared under suspicious circumstances to report the cases to the nearest police station as investigations continue. They also warned the public against participating in or facilitating child trafficking and called on communities to remain vigilant and report suspected cases promptly.
