Parliament Summons Uganda Airlines Executives Over Shs1.9 Trillion Audit Queries

By Jean-Marc Okito2 min read

Kampala, August 24, 2026 - Parliament's accountability committee has summoned Uganda Airlines executives over Shs1.9 trillion in audit queries, intensifying scrutiny of the national carrier's finances, aircraft management and operations.

The Auditor General raised critical questions about the airline's financial position and operational controls. The committee also pressed Chief Executive Officer Jenifer Bamuturaki to account for more than Shs48 million linked to free flight tickets issued to unidentified people.

The hearing follows a criminal investigation opened by the police Criminal Investigations Directorate working with the State House Anti-Corruption Unit into the airline's operations. Questions have also been raised over the appointment of Mr Wake and the multiple roles he brings to the carrier.

For investors and taxpayers, the inquiry keeps the spotlight on governance at a strategic state enterprise that is central to Uganda's aviation connectivity, tourism ambitions and public-sector balance-sheet exposure.
