Otunnu Steps Up Diplomatic Campaign For UN Leadership Bid
Kampala, August 24, 2026 - Ugandan diplomat Olara Otunnu has begun capital-to-capital campaign rounds for the United Nations secretary-general post, positioning Uganda in a high-profile global diplomatic contest.
The race remains fluid after an informal poll among candidates, with Otunnu recording the sharpest percentage gain among the eight contenders.
Otunnu has framed his candidacy around institutional reform and has urged member states across regions and income levels to consider his experience in international affairs.
