Opposition Figure Parole Kamizelo Sentenced, Plans Appeal

Kinshasa, March 15, 2026 - Opposition leader Parole Kamizelo, also known as “Maîtrisable” (Controllable), has been sentenced to two years of penal servitude for insulting the Head of State. The ruling was issued by the Kinshasa/Ngaliema Magistrate's Court on March 9, 2026.

Kamizelo’s legal team immediately announced plans to appeal the decision. Attorney Eloi Mubilansama described the verdict as “fundamentally unjust,” citing violations of fair trial guarantees and human rights protections under both the constitution and international law.

Known for his assertive presence on political programs, Kamizelo has gained notoriety since mid-2025 for his outspoken criticism of the Kinshasa government. During his trial, prosecutors accused him of questioning the official marriage of President Félix Tshisekedi, including repeatedly requesting photographic proof on television.

The PPRD party, to which Kamizelo belongs, has also called for his release and that of other officials reportedly held incommunicado, labeling their detention as arbitrary.
