Opposition Coalition Condemns Attacks And Keeps August 15 Deadline

Kinshasa, August 9, 2026 - The Article 64 Coalition condemned attacks on opposition members during an August 6 political meeting in Camp Luka and on the Kinshasa headquarters of the Engagement for Citizenship and Development on August 7.

The platform, which includes Martin Fayulu, Jean-Marc Kabund, Moise Katumbi, Augustin Matata and Delly Sesanga, described the incidents as acts of violence and intimidation incompatible with the rule of law, political pluralism and constitutionally protected public freedoms.

The coalition said its August 15 deadline remained in place and warned that, without concrete responses to its demands, it would reschedule its planned march. The stance keeps the risk of opposition mobilization on the political calendar during a period of heightened debate over constitutional and referendum issues.

The group also noted the announced transfer of Aubin Minaku and Emmanuel Ramazani Shadari to a known detention site after more than 200 days of detention it described as clandestine and arbitrary. It demanded that they be brought before a competent judge and receive a fair trial.

The coalition welcomed the return of Olivier Kamitatu's passport as a possible gesture toward easing political tensions, while calling for similar measures for other opposition figures in comparable situations.
