North Kivu: start of school disrupted in 12 schools in Masisi due to the security crisis

Since 1 October 2025, twelve schools in the Waloa Yungu group in Masisi territory (North Kivu) have remained closed due to clashes between rebels from the AFC-M23 group, the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC) and their Wazalendo allies. Among these establishments, seven primary and five secondary schools located in the localities of Bibatama and Mitwa, close to the borders of the Luberike group, are affected. The escalation of violence has caused parents, pupils and teachers to flee, with some taking refuge in the bush, leading to a mass displacement of the population and the suspension of school activities. The provincial education authorities are calling for security measures to be strengthened to enable the gradual return of the population and the reopening of schools, fearing that the school year will be lost if peace is not quickly restored.

DRC: 53 confirmed cases of Ebola and 31 deaths, with a fatality rate of 65%

The DRC is facing an Ebola epidemic with a total of 53 confirmed cases, including 31 deaths, and 11 probable cases, representing a fatality rate of 65%, according to the report of the 61st Council of Ministers meeting on Friday 3 August 2025. The Minister of Health, Hygiene and Prevention, Dr Roger Kamba, said that 49 suspected cases had been reported recently, including 14 validated cases, but no confirmed cases since the outbreak began. At the same time, the situation regarding cholera and Buruli ulcer is showing a downward trend, particularly in Kinshasa, while appropriate response measures are continuing to contain these three epidemics.
