North Kivu: humanitarian aid truck set on fire by youths in Oicha

A truck carrying humanitarian aid for displaced persons in Eringeti and Mayimoya was set on fire on the night of 7 to 8 October in Oicha, the capital of Beni territory in North Kivu. According to witnesses, a group of youths intercepted two lorries on National Road 4, mistakenly suspecting that they were supplying armed groups, before setting fire to one of them.

The incident, which occurred near the mosque in the Masosi neighbourhood, destroyed the entire cargo. Local authorities, including Mayor Eugénie Kavira Mwenge, condemned the act and announced the opening of an investigation, while civil society called on young people to avoid all forms of violence or vigilante justice.
