Niger Pushes “Made in Niger” Agenda with National Campaign and Industrial Oversight

Niamey, November 3, 2025 - Niger’s government is intensifying efforts to promote economic sovereignty through the “Made in Niger” initiative, combining public advocacy with hands-on industrial oversight.

On Monday, October 27, 2025, Minister of Commerce and Industry Abdoulaye Seydou officially launched the 6th edition of the Mois du Consommer Local (Local Consumption Month) for the UEMOA zone at the Mahatma Gandhi International Conference Center. The event drew the UEMOA Resident Representative, government officials, members of the CNSP, private sector stakeholders, and development partners.

The campaign aims to transform local consumption into a civic habit and a strategic lever for national economic sovereignty. Speaking at the launch, Governor of the Niamey Region General of Division Assoumane Abdou Harouna praised Niger’s productive capacity and craftsmanship, reinforcing government support for local industry.

Building on this initiative, Minister Seydou conducted an operational tour of seven industrial and production sites across Niamey on Thursday, October 30, 2025. Covering sectors such as dairy processing, hydrocarbons, recycling, and school supplies manufacturing, the tour allowed the minister to evaluate production chains, identify challenges faced by entrepreneurs, and commit government support to strengthen Niger’s industrial base.

Officials described the tour as a practical demonstration of a governance model that combines policy advocacy with direct oversight, ensuring that industrial development aligns with the country’s long-term economic sovereignty objectives.
