Niger Launches Sahel Women’s Digital Week to Promote Digital Empowerment
Niamey, December 12, 2025 - The Sahel Women’s Digital Week was officially launched today in Niamey, marking a major initiative to promote digital skills and empower women across the Sahel region. The program aims to bridge the gender digital divide and strengthen women’s participation in strategic digital and innovation sectors.
Under the patronage of Ms. Mama Keita, UN Resident Coordinator in Niger, the week-long training will provide 120 women with an intensive four-day program covering digital marketing, web development, artificial intelligence, and other essential digital competencies aligned with market needs.
The launch featured roundtables and discussions, including a keynote on “Women’s Leadership and Innovation in the Sahel”, highlighting the central role of women in driving the region’s digital transformation and sustainable development.
Ms. Ainhoa Jaureguibeitia, Deputy Head of UNICEF Niger, addressed the audience to share her vision and reaffirm UNICEF’s commitment to fostering women’s leadership in the digital sector, emphasizing that investing in women’s digital skills is a key lever for resilience, innovation, and socio-economic progress in the Sahel.
