Niger Launches National Forum to Strengthen NGO and Humanitarian SectorTillabéri, Niger - Niger’s transitional governmen
The forum, held in Tillabéri, brought together hundreds of NGO and development association representatives from across the country. The opening ceremony was presided over by Minister of State, Minister of the Interior, Public Security and Territorial Administration, General of Division Mohamed Toumba, the senior minister overseeing the sector.
In his keynote address, Minister Toumba highlighted persistent challenges undermining the effectiveness of humanitarian and development interventions. These included non-compliance with national regulations by some actors, limited financial traceability, and weak measurable impact of projects on beneficiary communities.
Under the theme, “NGOs and Development Associations: What Intervention for Endogenous Development?”, the forum reflects the government’s strategic shift toward aligning international aid and local initiatives with self-sustaining, locally driven development models. Mandated by Objective 8 of President Tiani’s mission letter to Minister Toumba, the forum aims to produce binding recommendations and a detailed implementation roadmap, setting the stage for a more regulated, coordinated, and nationally-aligned operational environment for non-governmental actors.
