Niamey, Niger - Niger officially launched the operational phase of its 5th General Population and Housing Census (RGP/H-5) with the installation of the Niamey Regional Committee by Governor General of Division Assoumane Abdou Harouna on Monday, October 27, 2025.

Established by Regional Decree N°00024/GRN, the committee will assist the Central Census Bureau in public sensitization campaigns, analysis of interim reports, and dissemination of final results.

A key innovation of the RGP/H-5 is the adoption of a fully digital mapping methodology aligned with United Nations recommendations. The system ensures precise delineation of enumeration units-from regions to individual quarters and villages-enhancing the accuracy and reliability of collected data.

Mr. Amadou Hamidou, technical coordinator of the Central Bureau, emphasized that the digital approach is essential for producing high-quality socio-demographic indicators, which will directly inform public policy, monitoring, and national social and economic planning for the coming decade.
