Niger Bolsters Global Partnerships Through High-Level Diplomatic Engagements
Niamey, Niger - In a week marked by intensive diplomacy, Niger strengthened its international ties, engaging with both European and South American partners to advance a diversified foreign policy agenda.
On Thursday, October 30, 2025, Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Antonio Tajani, led a high-level delegation to Niamey. He met with Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine, alongside Minister of State and Minister of National Defense, General Salifou Mody, and key figures from the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP) and the government.
Discussions focused on expanding bilateral cooperation across strategic sectors, with Niger’s delegation reflecting a coordinated approach that integrates economic development and national security priorities. Analysts note that Minister Tajani’s visit underscores Europe’s continued engagement with Niger’s transitional government, emphasizing dialogue and mutual interests despite regional challenges. The visit also signals potential avenues for technical cooperation and investment aligned with Niger’s sovereignty objectives.
On the same day, Niger advanced its partnership with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. H.E. Martinez Navarro Jovanny José, Venezuelan Vice-Minister of Popular Power for Hydrocarbons and Oil, led a delegation received by President Brigadier General Abdourahamane Tiani at the Presidential Palace. The audience, attended by Prime Minister Zeine, Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Bakary Yaou Sangaré, and senior presidential advisors, centered on strengthening collaboration in the energy sector.
This engagement follows a recent visa exemption agreement between the two countries and positions Venezuela as a strategic partner in Niger’s drive for energy sovereignty. Officials emphasized the potential for joint development of hydrocarbon resources, enhancing Niger’s leverage in global energy markets.
