New Wave of Mobondo Surrenders, Significant Cache of Weapons Recovered

Kwango, February 10, 2026 - The pacification efforts in areas affected by the Mobondo militia continue to gain momentum, with a new wave of surrenders reported in Kwango province.

After earlier disarmament operations in Kwamouth and Maluku, authorities have now confirmed that several Mobondo militiamen have laid down their arms in the villages of Ipongi and Mulosi, as well as near the Kwango Bridge.

Among those who surrendered are fighters affiliated with the group led by militia commander Mouton, described by officials as one of the most resistant factions within the movement. The militiamen reportedly handed themselves over to the defense and security forces, along with what authorities say is a significant quantity of weapons.

Deputy Minister of Defense Eliezer Ntambwe confirmed the development, noting that weapons are still being collected and that a precise inventory will be provided once the operation concludes in Kinshasa.

“Our brothers who were involved in this movement have agreed to lay down their arms. Many have done so. We are currently preparing to travel with them to Kinshasa so that those who choose to join the army can do so, and those who opt for vocational training can also access it. This also falls within our purview. I cannot give you a precise number of weapons, as we are still collecting them along the way. You will have more details once we arrive in Kinshasa,” stated Minister Ntambwe.

According to authorities, the surrendered fighters will be evacuated to Kinshasa, where some may undergo military integration, while others will benefit from vocational training programs as part of the broader disarmament and reintegration process.

Local militia leaders in Ipongi reportedly encouraged remaining fighters to abandon violence and join the peace process, signaling a possible shift within certain factions of the armed group.

Despite this progress, officials stress that the mission remains ongoing. Further security operations are expected in areas where the Mobondo threat persists, as the government seeks to restore stability across affected territories.
