New Economic Partnership Signed

Rwanda-Brazil, February 4, 2026 - Rwanda and Brazil have formalized a strategic partnership to boost trade, investment, and sectoral cooperation. The agreement was signed during the ‘Rwanda-Brazil Economic Cooperation Forum’.

Rwanda was represented by Jean-Guy Afrika, Director General of the National Development Board (RDB), while Brazil was represented by Jorge Viana of its Export Promotion Agency (APEX-Brazil).

The deal sets a clear framework for trade promotion, investment facilitation, trade-related travel, and sectoral collaboration. Additionally, APEX-Brazil signed a cooperation agreement with the Rwanda Private Sector Federation, led by Stephen Ruzibiza, to further strengthen private sector engagement.

Jean-Guy Afrika highlighted the complementary strengths of the two nations: Brazil with its leadership in agriculture, industry, and energy, and Rwanda offering a safe investment environment and strategic access to East and Central African markets.

Brazilian Ambassador Irene Vida Gala encouraged Brazilian investors to explore opportunities in Rwanda, calling the agreement a major step in bilateral cooperation.

Rwanda-Brazil relations date back to 1981, with agreements on air services (2019) and food security (2011). Since 2022, Rwanda has imported wheat and sugar from Brazil, replacing some imports from Ukraine.

The partnership aims to expand trade and investment while reinforcing the private sector and sustainable economic growth in both countries.
